The flag of Kenya came into being in Decemer 1963. The black band represents the people of Kenya, the red band represents the blood shed during the battle for Kenya's independence and the green is symbolic of the fertile land of Kenya. The white bands in between these larger colours represent peace and honesty and the traditional shield and two spears are defending all the items represented.
